“Could it get any worse??” “oops.”

Today was quite an adventure! We were supposed to teach a three-day camp at Mnkhupa. We all piled in to the bus and headed down these back roads, but it had rained the night before and so we were sliding all over the road from the mud. After the bus slid in to a ditch, we all got out and pushed it out and back on the road. We saw the road up ahead looked really bad, so we decided to walk the rest of the way to the school. After walking for about five minutes, we got to a huge mud pit where there wasn’t even the possibility of us walking. So, we got the bus turned around and the Mnkhupa camp was cancelled.

Heading back, we stopped at one of the schools we’re supposed to go to next week to see if we could teach there this week instead of next, but they denied us. Then we stopped at another, and they agreed to do a two-day camp starting tomorrow. Alright.

We got back to the house a COMPLETE mud mess, rinsed off, and headed out to an orphanage to give them all our nsima since we didn’t want to waste it. We drove down another dirt road in to this school, decided we needed to turn around, and slid in to a muddy ditch where we proceeded to get stuck (with about 20 people pushing) until we finally got some bricks for traction. Bus went flying out of the mud pit and almost slid in to a house, but narrowly missed it. So, we had a group dance with the kids and dropped off the coolers of nsima. Someone will go back and pick it up tomorrow.

After a couple games of pool volleyball, a few of us decided to go to the Crisis Control Nursery to hold some babies. I got a tiny six-month baby named Rachel, and she was making all sorts of silly faces. We got to feed them and hold them until they got sleepy. Of course, I got peed on by one of the kids, but it all went with the day. I didn’t mind.

Afterwards, we had a fantastic yoga session and an even better vegetarian chili dinner with ice cream (provided by World Camp for our tireless efforts pushing buses today!) and now we’re off to paint our solar ovens!! Crazy, crazy day.
