A great birthday

June 15, 2013

Thursday the 13th of June was my 26th birthday, and turned out to be my best one yet.  Usually I dread my birthday, not because of getting older but because I have always had bad birthdays.  The past couple years I have had to work late, have had some major problem to deal with, or someone just ruined my day.  So, I think of my birthday as a day I…

Wanda’s Big Day (Hopefully!)

May 23, 2013

Wanda, our 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, has been spending the past week at a farm in Marshall, VA with an experienced reproductive veterinarian to hopefully become an expectant mother.  Unbeknownst to her, we delicately chose “Royal Classic” as her mate, and shipped the “goods” from Florida for the moment she was ready a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately the first time I took her to be checked for readiness, she had…

Eric Church, a Pony Club Reunion, and “War Horse”

October 28, 2012

Busy weekend!  A few weeks ago I had bought tickets to see Eric Church in concert for Nathan’s birthday.  He was coming to town, and Nathan kept talking about how he wanted to get tickets, but he shouldn’t, but he wanted to, but he couldn’t.  So, I did it for him.  We had the BEST time, and I would absolutely recommend a concert of his to friends!!  Justin Moore and…

Wanda’s two months in Aiken

March 29, 2011

This past weekend I made the 10 hour + trip from Fairfax, VA on Friday after work to Aiken, SC (with an overnight pit stop in Florence, SC), and returned on Sunday. I had originally taken Wanda to Aiken for a few reasons, with the greatest being the fact I have no arena at home and the ground was making it increasingly difficult to ride. Not to mention the fact…

My job and Aiken adventures

My last update was December 2nd, and boy has a lot gone on since then! The holidays went without a glitch, and I was lucky to be able to spend Christmas with my family at Millwood this year. Last year I was working in PA, and had to work that morning so I wasn’t able to make it in time for the Judy family Christmas. Post-holidays, I had a few…

Morning Excitement

This morning at the barn we had a bit of excitement! I let Wanda & Dublin out in to their field, forgetting I had pinned open a gate on the other side of the paddock because the manure pile is there and they hadn’t been allowed out because of the rain these past couple days. So, with Wanda leading, the two went trotting down the gravel driveway towards the house…

December 2, 2010

May 16, 2010

Just returned from the 2010 Virginia Region Show Jumping Rally in Manakin Sabot, VA. It was held by the Deep Run Hunt Pony Club, so we got to play on their turf 🙂 I’m too tired to write a lot about it right now, but our kids did great!! I was the captain of the ‘Horseology’ team, which included 3 younger riders and a stable manager. We struggled a…

Home from Aiken – Bittersweet

As you have probably noticed from Facebook/Twitter updates, Wanda and I have returned from Aiken to my parents’ home in Fairfax Station, VA. There is a point in time when being a working student starts to wear on you both mentally and physically, and I think ending things was the best option. PD and I are going to continue working together in PA, as I am planning to drive up…

Aiken Plague

February 9, 2010

We’ve been hit! Jennie was the first to get it, and now I have been brought down by the plague. It’s a pretty weird illness which starts as a headache at night and gives you a horrible achy feeling in the morning. Unfortunately my day off wasn’t until Friday, so I was pretty down-under this morning. Today at work Susanna graciously offered to switch days with me, so now I…

Ohh Aiken!

February 4, 2010

So we’ve relocated to Aiken, SC for the winter, and things are going pretty well! The work here is definitely more tough and the days are longer. I’m actually running out the door but wanted to give a brief update.. will do more later!! What happens when you get in hot sun with no lotion after being in cold weather for a long time? Burn blisters!
