WOTD August 2-8, 2015

8/8/15 Got AT IT today on the bike.  Long ride day with nutrition practice.  GU (chocolate peanut butter) gel to start my ride, GU (salted caramel) at mile 7.  I should’ve pushed this second GU to around mile 9, then another at 20, which is about 40 minutes (as they say on the package).  Carried my aero bottle with just water and a bottle under me with Gatorade powder (orange…

The Giant Acorn Sprint Triathlon

September 28, 2013

Another sprint triathlon in the bag! Today was the Giant Acorn Sprint Triathlon, held at Lake Anna State Park in Virginia.  It was an absolutely gorgeous venue with a lake swim out and back, a rolling hill bike, and a trail-road one loop run. Nathan had an event he was preparing for, so he opted not to race this one, which was fine with me…  I enjoyed the constant cheering…

Pohanka Nissan/Hyundai – YMCA Colonial Beach Sprint Triathlon 2013

July 15, 2013

The Pohanka Nissan/Hyundai – YMCA Colonial Beach Sprint Triathlon was held this past weekend, on Saturday July 13th in Colonial Beach, VA. The start was at 6:50AM, so we had to leave home in Arlington at around 4:30am (way too early for this!). Nathan and I entered to try and up our times from the last race, and it turned out to be a very successful day! Overall, Nathan ended…

Naylor’s Beach Sprint Triathlon

June 3, 2013

Yesterday I achieved another goal – I completed a sprint triathlon and became a triathlete. This goal was not easy to come by, and it did not go smoothly.  There were days before the race I just couldn’t train anymore, and a lot of mentally frustrating workouts.  My worst day came on Thursday before the race.  Nathan and I were doing an open water swim at National Harbor through our…

Showers, Color, and Skins!

September 10, 2012

This past weekend was jam-packed. Saturday Nathan, mom, and I drove down to Charlottesville for a wedding shower at his family’s church.  We had a fabulous time, and everyone was so very generous to us!  It was a little hard, because I didn’t know very many of the guests and Nathan has been away for so long that he didn’t know them very well either, but we were so very…

DRPC Horse Trials & the Run for Justice 5k

May 9, 2012

Back to the fun of crazy weekends! Saturday I volunteered at the Difficult Run Pony Club Horse Trials at Frying Pan Park as a jump judge.  This is my last year with the pony club (I age out at the end of the year), so I’m trying to get back in with the club to start giving back what I’ve been given by them over the years!  Unfortunately there were…

13.1: You have been owned!!!

April 10, 2012

DONE friends, DONE. This past weekend was the Charlottesville Marathon/Half Marathon/8K/Kids Mile in the downtown area of Charlottesville, Virginia.  My running partner and I have been training for about 4 months for the Half Marathon, which is 13.1 miles of rolling Charlottesville terrain. Friday I was lucky enough to have work close early for Easter weekend (3pm), so we jumped in my car and made the 3 hour trek to Charlottesville.  We…

8k… DONE!!

March 11, 2012

Today was the St. Patrick’s 8k in downtown, DC.  It was also my very first legitimate running race, and the debut of “Team Noob-A-Roo” (though we only had 3 people so it didn’t count!).  I’m ultimately thrilled about how my running mate and I did, and am looking forward to seeing what happens in 4 weeks at our HALF MARATHON!! But not to get ahead of myself… I still have a bit…

Happy (Rany) Leap Day!

February 29, 2012

I hope everyone is having a good “Leap Day,” as it only comes around once every four years.  Apparently if you were born on February 29th, you are called a “Leapling.”  Learn something new every day 🙂 According to Wikipedia.com: “In the British Isles, it is a tradition that women may propose marriage only on leap years. While it has been claimed that the tradition was initiated by Saint Patrick…
