The Giant Acorn Sprint Triathlon

September 28, 2013

Another sprint triathlon in the bag! Today was the Giant Acorn Sprint Triathlon, held at Lake Anna State Park in Virginia.  It was an absolutely gorgeous venue with a lake swim out and back, a rolling hill bike, and a trail-road one loop run. Nathan had an event he was preparing for, so he opted not to race this one, which was fine with me…  I enjoyed the constant cheering…

Washington’s Green Grocer

I am totally and completely in love with Washington’s Green Grocer.  A small mixed box is $32.50, and you can order it per week, bi-weekly, or “on demand” to be delivered to your door! Yesterday we received our first box, and WOW was it PACKED with delicious fruits and veggies! Our box contained: Several yukon gold potatoes 1 huge head of cauliflower (I made mashed cauliflower last night for dinner,…

International Distance Complete!

August 19, 2013

In my last post, I had discussed the probability of dropping from the international distance to the sprint distance at the Luray Triathlon this past weekend.  Of course, a few good friends of ours let us know they were having their housewarming on Saturday afternoon, which left us trying to decide if doing the sprint on Sunday would allow us to have any fun on Saturday night.  In the end,…

Pohanka Nissan/Hyundai – YMCA Colonial Beach Sprint Triathlon 2013

July 15, 2013

The Pohanka Nissan/Hyundai – YMCA Colonial Beach Sprint Triathlon was held this past weekend, on Saturday July 13th in Colonial Beach, VA. The start was at 6:50AM, so we had to leave home in Arlington at around 4:30am (way too early for this!). Nathan and I entered to try and up our times from the last race, and it turned out to be a very successful day! Overall, Nathan ended…

The Monday after a 4-day weekend

July 8, 2013

What a bummer it is to return to work after such a glorious four-day weekend!  Thursday (Independence Day), Nathan and I took advantage of the weather to work on cleaning up the new boat.  A couple months ago we acquired the boat from a family member, and since then Nathan has been working hard to get it repaired and cleaned up for this season.  Finally, it was checked over by…

Naylor’s Beach Sprint Triathlon

June 3, 2013

Yesterday I achieved another goal – I completed a sprint triathlon and became a triathlete. This goal was not easy to come by, and it did not go smoothly.  There were days before the race I just couldn’t train anymore, and a lot of mentally frustrating workouts.  My worst day came on Thursday before the race.  Nathan and I were doing an open water swim at National Harbor through our…

Wanda’s Big Day (Hopefully!)

May 23, 2013

Wanda, our 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, has been spending the past week at a farm in Marshall, VA with an experienced reproductive veterinarian to hopefully become an expectant mother.  Unbeknownst to her, we delicately chose “Royal Classic” as her mate, and shipped the “goods” from Florida for the moment she was ready a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately the first time I took her to be checked for readiness, she had…

The TJHSST Pi-Miler

March 17, 2013

Saturday morning my brother and I braved the threat of terrible weather to run the 3rd Annual Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Pi-Miler!  The run was 3.14 miles (hence the name), and consisted of a loop through the nearby neighborhoods of TJ.  I needed a race in my half-marathon training to push me a little bit, and since Tristan went to TJ for high school, I knew…

Eric Church, a Pony Club Reunion, and “War Horse”

October 28, 2012

Busy weekend!  A few weeks ago I had bought tickets to see Eric Church in concert for Nathan’s birthday.  He was coming to town, and Nathan kept talking about how he wanted to get tickets, but he shouldn’t, but he wanted to, but he couldn’t.  So, I did it for him.  We had the BEST time, and I would absolutely recommend a concert of his to friends!!  Justin Moore and…

Date Night Wednesday – Tandoori Nights

Nathan and I have been trying to keep up with a date night once a week, to avoid us getting too busy for each other and to explore the numerous restaurants around Arlington without spending a million dollars by eating out every night. This week we used a Groupon for Tandoori Nights, which is a delicious Indian-inspired restaurant in the Market Commons Clarendon.  The Groupon was $20 for $40 worth…
