Wanda, our 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, has been spending the past week at a farm in Marshall, VA with an experienced reproductive veterinarian to hopefully become an expectant mother. Unbeknownst to her, we delicately chose “Royal Classic” as her mate, and shipped the “goods” from Florida for the moment she was ready a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the first time I took her to be checked for readiness, she had just ended her heat cycle and started over, so mom helped me out and dropped her off this past Friday to stay at the breeding farm until she was good to go. I received a text on Tuesday letting me know she was close, and Wednesday morning she was finally inseminated. Everything sounded like it went well, and when I picked her up early this morning she was in good spirits. Lots of fingers crossed and prayers that it took! We should know on June 8, our follow-up exam.
