What a bummer it is to return to work after such a glorious four-day weekend! Thursday (Independence Day), Nathan and I took advantage of the weather to work on cleaning up the new boat. A couple months ago we acquired the boat from a family member, and since then Nathan has been working hard to get it repaired and cleaned up for this season. Finally, it was checked over by a marine mechanic and we were given the go-ahead to put it in the water. Thursday was also Wanda’s second pregnancy check-up, and unfortunately the second time she was not pregnant. It seemed from the ultrasound that she had been with foal, but had lost the egg recently. It was heartbreaking, but we’ll try again once the weather begins to cool down. Thursday night we had dinner with one of Nathan’s friends from work and his wife. We grilled out back of their new condo and made it to Fort Myer to watch the very end of the Washington DC fireworks. We missed the show by about 10 minutes! Still a great night, though.
Friday morning we woke early to swim, have breakfast, and take the boat to Occoquan to see if it would run. My expert trailer-backing skills came in handy as we put it in at Occoquan Regional Park, and it started perfectly. A few mishaps with steering and finding a gas station, but overall a great day on the water. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch any fish! Nathan and I taking the boat for a spin! We loaded up the boat at the end of the day, took a quick shower at my parents’ in Fairfax Station, and had dinner reservations at Trummer’s on Main in Clifton. Dinner was absolutely delicious. My main course was the pork and Nathan had the hen, and by the end of the night we couldn’t agree on whose food was better. Everything was perfect. It was an absolutely wonderful meal.
Saturday we decided to take a little road trip, and found ourselves in Franklin, West Virginia for the Judy Family Annual Reunion. The reunion is based on my maternal grandfather’s parents, and then their kids, and now is a random assortment of grandkids, great-grandkids, and their new little ones. Unfortunately my grandfather passed a few years ago and my uncle (his son) a few weeks ago, so his side of the family is just my grandmother, my parents, and my brother, husband, and I. The drive down is long but very scenic. It takes you over the windy mountain, which is absolutely terrifying! Of course, I drove 🙂 But, we ended up having a great time (although Nathan and I were out in the second round of the egg-toss) and after a quick pit stop to see the view we made it back exhausted Saturday night.
Sunday was a bit more relaxing, and we tried to have a calm day! We went to church in the morning and then swung by the bike shop to have my bike tuned up (I crashed it last week!). Afterwards we went for a swim at Washington-Lee High School, and Nathan threw some skewers and sausage on the grill in our building for dinner. Check out this video of him being a goof! Overall, it was a great weekend.
This year, HM and I went to Fort Campbell for their carnival, band and fireworks…
